Professor

Painting & Drawing, Intermedia, (100% Art)

Professor Callister is primarily a painter who also works in a variety of other media to expand the boundaries of, and context for, her painting practice. Often incorporating digital media and sculpture/found objects etc. into her installations, Callister’s work is both playful and rigorous- insisting on bridging the gap between intellectual and popular pleasures through a synthesis of the cerebral and physical aspects of an art praxis. Callister has exhibited nationally and internationally, most recently at the South Bend Museum of Art, IN; Albright Knox Museum of Art, Buffalo, NY; Las Vegas Art Museum, NV; 2006 California Biennale, Orange County Museum of Art Newport Beach, CA.; The First Prague Biennale, Czech Republique in 2003; The New Museum, NY; The Frankfurt Airfair (2001 & 2002); Jette Rudolf, Berlin; Anton Weller, Paris; Umea Univeristet, Sweden and Susanne Vielmetter: Los Angeles Projects. Her work has appeared in notable publications such “Vitamin P: New Perspectives in Painting” by Phaidon Press 2002, “Abstract Painting: Concepts and Techniques” Watson and Guptil, NY, 2005 and “LA Artland”, Blackdog press, London, UK November 2005, as well as reviews in periodicals such as Art in America and the LA Times.
