Jay Lizo is an artist living and working in Los Angeles. Jay’s practice is open in scope and includes paintings, collages and wall installations. Jay’s activities include curation, and his innovative dj’ing. Jay’s work has appeared in solo and group exhibitions throughout California- the Sea/Space Gallery in L.A., High Desert Test Sites in Joshua Tree, Angels Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro, Torrance Art Museum, Oxnard, Cypress, and Long Beach Colleges, Eagle Rock Center for the Arts, Los Angeles’ Elephant Space, Raid Projects, Seeline Gallery, and Kristi Engle Gallery; in addition to exhibitions in St. Louis, MI, New York, NY, and Austria.
Jay’s active presence in the LA art community notably includes his role as co-founder of theHighland Park artist-run space, Monte Vista Projects. Since July 2007, they have hosted a wide range of exhibitions, lectures, events, and performances. The space is self-determining—there is no “manifesto”—but their general aims are to provide a platform for art and conversation to Los Angeles, emphasizing experimentation and artworks that contribute to non-traditional dialogues.
